‘You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.’ - James Clear
This article is the index for the series, ‘Systems.’
Like other TBS series, it’s a deep dive into a specific topic. Here, I dive into the pesky, time-consuming topic of systematising your business.
Pesky, because the things ‘you just know’ have to be tightly defined, documented, and implemented through your business.
When they’re done right, every important task is performed consistently and to a defined standard. This reduces mistakes, improves quality, and boosts customer satisfaction. Even when you’re not around to look over their shoulders.
Systems:
Foster transparency and accountability within your team
Encourage scaleability - if standard operating procedures are in place and enforced, scale becomes a matter of headcount
Reduce key personnel risk
Encourage consistency throughout your business.
Business systems are the necessary precursor to freeing up founder time so they get to work on their business, not in their business. This is a big difference.
My intent with this series is to provide enough guidance and examples to help you reach this happy outcome. Because when you do, you do not serve the business; instead, it serves you and your goals.
